    I wish there was a way to stretch this muscle without getting on the floor. I’ve had both knees replaced and this past December, I tripped and fell shattering the neck of femur therefore had a total hip replacement and still, now, June 21, still in rehab trying to strengthen the surgery leg. Physical therapist and I just realized what is giving me problems is the sartorious muscle causing pain and weakness in my right quadricep. Is there another way to stretch this muscle maybe by laying on a massage table which is what I do all of my stretches on?? Thank you!

    • @psoasbodywork
      @psoasbodywork 13 дней назад

      I'm sorry to hear your recovery from knee replacement is progressing so slowly. This stretch can be done on a massage table (or even in bed) the same way it is done on the floor, but I would check-in with your physical therapist who's more familiar with your case to determine if this stretch is right for you to do at this stage.

I am going to attempt this stretch today at three sets of ten seconds or so if I can handle it. If pain starts to subside I’ll increase five seconds daily to thirty seconds as well as add one additional set with the time increase.

    • @psoasbodywork
      @psoasbodywork 2 месяца назад

      Yes, as you engage your rhomboids to squeeze your scapulae together your arms will move apart from each other. Just remember that the arms get wider because the scapulae are retracting, not because you're straightening your elbows. That way you're engaging the correct muscles.

    An amateur yoga teacher pressed hard here near the spine, i dont know why they did that. She said i have scoliosis and need my neck to tilt lefter. Now it is paining and blocking my neck movement instead. Is it rhombhoid pain?

    • @psoasbodywork
      @psoasbodywork 2 месяца назад

      It's hard to say if it's rhomboid pain or something else going on, perhaps related to the the ribs or vertabrae themselves. I recommend getting an appointment either with a massage therapist, chiropractor, or another style of bodyworker, (or even a doctor if you're experiencing a high level of pain) for a more thorough evaluation.

    Long story but true: I had neck issues and went to a quack-a-practor (My first mistake). He adjusted my neck and a a day later, my whole right side went numb/tingling. It was like that for months and started going into atrophy (I was working out a lot then, and you could see the difference between the left and right side of my body). My doctor figured it was a pinched nerve so they sent me to PT. The therapist had me in traction, doing a bunch of different stresses and exercises, etc and could NOT figure out what was going on. The numbness remained. On the final day of therapy (that my insurance would pay for) she said "Let me try something...just go with it". She had me lay on a table and stood at my head. She fish-hooked my mouth, her finger pressing on the masseter muscle from inside my mouth for about two minutes. I can take pain but this was excruciating. I was just about to tell her to stop when she released her finger and asked "How's that?". The numb tingling in my arm was gone. Whenever I have neck pain now, I have my wife fish-hook me. It's our kinky thing. This video is a bit less messy.

I'm Jayme, and im a career electritian and general contractor. Its been great but im 38 so for the last 9 months i've been in massage therapy school, working my way through doing a combination of construction, massage, treework🌳, and screen printing. I also try and keep up with a six year old who's in fact my world. Trying to survive here and transition into a new career that makes me more available to those that matter most and everyone else. The question i have for you is (aside from the obvious, rest, relax, don't burn yourself out advice) might you profer any wisdom on how to save my hands, actively. You see, theres few hours left in the day for R&R. I love this, i love massage, its its a new way for me to help people and i want to do it for the rest of my life. Not five years. Twenty five. So, for me and those alike, about to graduate and be new LMTs. Can you do a series on self care, stretching, maintenance. @@SunGoddes113 It's hard to say... very often piriformis syndrome is caused by the piriformis muscle doing the work of weak gluteus muscles. Your gluteus medius may be tender from the PT strengthening exercises, or there may be a different issue contributing to the g. medius tenderness which is in turn contributing to the piriformis syndrome.

    • @psoasbodywork
      @psoasbodywork 4 месяца назад

      It can help to think of glute medius as three separate muscles: all three portions of glute medius are involved in abduction (lifting your leg out to the side), but the front third is also involved in flexion and medial rotation, and the back third is also involved in extension and external rotation. Because the traditional figure 4 position is a rotation stretch, only one third of the muscle will get a true stretch in that position. This stretch that Michael is demonstrating will stretch all three portions of glute medius at the same time. I hope that makes the why of this stretch a little easier to understand.

      A massage gun is definitely a useful tool to loosen up hypertonic calf muscles, but you want to be cautious working with injured muscles. If the injury is recent and there's still inflammation it might be best to wait before using any of these self-massage tools.
